A World of Celtic Music

Once upon a time the Celtic speaking world was vast. As peoples migrated west from other lands, their languages slowly took over, leaving the Celtic languages in pockets in parts of western Europe: northern Spain, Brittany, the British Isles. The Celtic peoples' music left an indelible impression longer than their languages, so you will find bagpipes and famililar melodies and rhythms where you least expect it.

At Radio Dé Danann we are devoted to ferreting out all the Celtic traditions and music we can! On our playlists you will find the usual suspects, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, but you will also hear Cornish, Breton, Galicians and Asturian, not to mention music from the Isles of Man, Orkneys, and the Hebrides. Since Celtic peoples took their music across the sea in the Diaspora, you will find music from the New World, including Cape Breton, Québeçois, and bands in the U.S., as well as in Australia and New Zealand.

For fun we throw in a little English folk music and its heirs, some Renaissance music, poetry and speeches.

So get yourself some refreshment, sit back and listen to the lively, mysterious, soulful, rousing, merry and magial music of the pan-Celtic world!
